Description:
The piece Summer Vibes is written in a so-called A-B-A form. This means that it begins with a recognizable first part, followed by a contrasting middle section before the opening theme returns - a bit like reliving a summer memory.
The A section focuses on two playful rhythms: a sixteenth note followed by a dotted eighth note and then exactly the opposite. This rhythmic change gives the music a lively, almost dance-like character.
The B section then brings a surprising twist: The meter changes to three-four time, and the accent subtly shifts to the second half of the second beat. For the musicians, this is a nice exercise in playing together, in listening and in rhythmic awareness, as the accent is somewhat different than one might expect.
It is precisely this playful sense of rhythm and the change between different time signatures that make the piece not only exciting to listen to, but also particularly instructive to play.
