Description:
Composed between 1924 and 1928 and first published by Éditions Max Eschig in 1953, the Douze Études for guitar by Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887–1959) represent one of the cornerstones of the guitar repertoire of the twentieth century. While exploring specific technical aspects, such as arpeggios, scales or chords, each study has a unique and original musical character, the result of the integration between Brazilian and European cultures. This edition by Frédéric Zigante analyzes each of these aspects and provides in individual sheets accompanying each study the treatment of the following aspects: - the didactic purposes of the piece - the textual problems (agogic, dynamic, technique, study and interpretation) - the sources of inspiration of the composer - the formal analysis The musical text is integrated with the fingering, in particular that for the right hand rarely present in Villa-Lobos' original texts. An edition with a specifically educational purpose, intended for guitarists who are confronted with the masterpiece of the Brazilian composer.
