Description:
More than a century after its composition in 1917, Les Productions d’Oz has published the first edition of "Caxinguelê," an early work by Luciano Gallet, a prominent figure in Brazilian nationalist musical modernism. Classified as a "maxixe – samba carnavalesco," it is imbued with Brazilian popular music elements. The rhythmic patterns and the harmony reflect the typical "Carnaval" music of the period, however, complemented by subtleties such as chord extensions, counterpoint lines, and pedal point. In this piece, Gallet used the pseudonym "Anhangá," a common practice at the time to preserve a respectable image in the classical music scene. The present transcription was based on the composer’s manuscript for ensemble: piano, flute, 2 violins, cello, bass, and percussion.
