'Doïna': a poetic song or lament characteristic of music from the Balkans.
Inspired by a Moldavian Doïna, this 6 minute concert duet for two guitars presents characteristic rhythms and melodies of Balkan, Tzigane and klezmer music.
The piece begins calmly with a highly ornamented prelude, where the two 'prepared' guitars imitate the cimbalom.
Next, the music becomes agitated to the point of exuberance, before closing with a simple and tender song, typical of the Moldavian lament: the 'Doïna'.
This duet is intended for advanced students or professional guitarists.
