Description:
This Mexican folk song is popular not only in Mexico—though especially so there—and is performed particularly often on "Día de los Muertos" (our All Saints' Day). On this day in Latin America, the deceased are honored with a lively celebration; people connect with them and celebrate together with them. The melody of the piece is very old, and its origin is unknown. Melodic passages from the intro and the interlude have long been part of the song; they are often performed together with the main melody. Their origin is also unknown.
