Considering the activity of transcriber and self-transcriber that Bach himself carried out and the necessary recalibration, as well as conscious manipulation, to which he subjected the musical text according to the designated destination – rewriting passages and changes of tonality not only for reasons of idiomatic adherence, but also for expressive needs – the editors acted according to the principles of translation studies, considering the two instruments as real languages. Far from the blind – as well as chimerical – need to carry out a literal transposition of the original text, they have pursued the desire to deeply question each individual problematic passage in order to be able to fully understand it, recontextualize and, where necessary, reformulate it in compliance with Bach's style. Only by constantly taking into account the characteristics of the guitar do they cease to represent limits and instead open up horizons of possibilities.
