Description:
These trios are based on the C major diatonic scale. They are style exercises designed to explore the colors found within this scale. I wanted to add a complement to the Trios.com pieces I composed to work on the lower strings of the guitar. The trio format makes it possible to play simple pieces while exploring the themes associated with the modes.
I am also providing the associations I have made with each mode. These are intended as points of reference rather than rules.
Ionian: joy, optimism, serenity, confidence.
Dorian: melancholy, gentleness, hope, calm, reflection.
Phrygian: mystery, tension, exoticism, intensity.
Lydian: wonder, lightness, dreaming, luminosity.
Mixolydian: energy, conviviality, freedom, blues or rock character.
Aeolian (natural minor): sadness, nostalgia, emotion, introspection.
Locrian: instability, uneasiness, suspense, discomfort.
These trios were written to enrich the pedagogical repertoire.
