Did you know that it was originally a Portuguese instrument, highly popularized in Hawaii, and given the name Uku, which means flea? And when one is playing the Ukulele, (which is the anglicized version of Uku), that’s exactly how ones hands flit about the strings – just like a busily hopping flea!
