This composition exudes serenity and calm, but also intensity and expressiveness – reminiscent of earlier works by Van der Roost such as Canterbury Chorale and Adagio for Winds. Extended melody lines characterize the main themes, which resound in the different voices and evolve through changing keys. The wind orchestra sounds almost like an organ: the different timbres and broad musical phrases allow a comparison with this majestic instrument. The work is not overloaded and contains no technical or rhythmic exaggerations. On the contrary, it develops from an intense richness of sound to a muted final passage that culminates in a slowly fading final chord. After the many warm harmonies and great melodies, the work ends in a contemplative mood.
