  • Genre: Classical Music, Classical Music of the Modern Age
These two songs by Vladimir Genin are from the large-scale cycle Les Fleurs du Mal (approx. 70 min.) based on poems by Charles Baudelaire, composed for various instrumentations with soprano. The music in the cycle often carries the air of the French sound world - sometimes in the style of old music, sometimes romantic, sometimes with a touch of chanson, street music with accordion or light jazz coloration. The instrumentation chosen here with soprano, violin, cello, double bass, guitar and piano lends the two songs a special, almost jazzy and urban touch. Madrigal triste (Sicilienne) combines the form of an old Sicilian dance with the melancholy of Baudelaire. The progression is like a sad dance - simple, restrained, yet imbued with a quiet, tragic elegance. L'invitation au voyage (Tango baudelairien) is based on one of Baudelaire's best-known poems. The atmosphere of the text - at once dreamy and sensual, almost erotic - is transformed here into a modern, chanson-like song language in which light and shadow interweave with the rhythms of the tango and the echoes of the blues. It is not only an invitation to a journey, but also to a shared experience of beauty, lust and intimacy.
