The Sorbian composer and church musician Felix Bräuer traces the deeply moving events of Good Friday through all emotional states in his Passion cantata "Contemplation of the Passion of Christ".
The forms of "contemplative" passions can also be found in Carl Heinrich Graun (1704-1759), among others. However, this cantata adds a certain accent to the existing works of music history. It breaks away from the idea of uniform testimonies of suffering; it offers an individual, very personal view of the story of suffering. The text of the Passion in particular differs from anything previously known, as in most cases it is not biblical texts, but texts written especially for this cantata by the composer himself.
Known melodies, which the composer used and adapted, make the work seem familiar despite the partly new texts
