Description:
As the title suggests, *Cantilena* is first and foremost a song: a long melodic line that unfolds gently and restrainedly over an introspective *andante*. The work draws all its material from the melodic motifs of the composer’s Violin Concerto (2001), which are transformed here into a world of finely woven timbres. It was premiered in 2007 as part of a concert dedicated to the composer’s music at the Kjarvalsstaðir City Museum. Transparent and delicately crafted, the piece plays with colors and resonances, creating an atmosphere that is at times mysterious, at times luminous. Alternating between dolce passages and more intense surges, *Cantilena* invites the listener to an intimate listening experience—culminating in a floating, exquisitely delicate conclusion.
