Description:
Johann Ernst Eberlin has long since ceased to be regarded as a mere Salzburg "forerunner" of W. A. Mozart, but rather as an outstanding composer with his own musical profile, whose works - solidly rooted in the Baroque - point far into the Viennese Classical period with technical refinements and harmonic daring for his time. The majority of his important church music is still unpublished; however, the 15 vocal works published by Butz to date bear impressive witness to his mastery. Reason enough to present further works by him in first editions, here in the form of a splendid offertory in which soloists and choir enter into a lively dialog to praise the wonders of the Lord (Ps. 88.6). The accompaniment is already complete with the classical church trio, so that a festive praise can be added to the choral repertoire with minimal personnel and rehearsal effort.
