Description:
Luigi Boccherini was one of the most important Italian composers of instrumental music in the last third of the 18th century. As the well-travelled artist spent the last decades of his life in Spain (including as a court composer), many of his works had a hard time penetrating the centers of European music. For this reason, unpublished masterpieces from his pen can still be found today. This includes the motet on the famous verse from Ps. 70, the opening call to the evening prayer of the hours "O God, come to my aid", presented here in its first edition. Two rousing choral movements in the best classical manner frame a lyrical tenor solo in which the beginning of the doxology is heard. The eight-minute work, (still) with rarity status, can be a highlight of any concert of classical church music.
