Description:
Suk’s Rural Serenade for Piano is a work from the composer’s youth. Suk returned to it in the final months of his life and arranged it for a small instrumental ensemble (two clarinets, three violins, viola, cello, and double bass). The arrangement was intended for the band in Suk’s birthplace, Krecovice. Because it was intended for amateur musicians, the composer omitted technically difficult passages from the original piano score and arranged the serenade to be as accessible as possible for the performers. This version marks the first time the "Rural Serenade" has appeared in print. It was prepared by Miroslav Nový based on an authentic copy of the autograph manuscript—now lost—which is housed in the Music Archive of Czech Radio in Prague. The editor’s foreword is included in Czech, English, and German.
