Solomotette zum Dreifaltigkeitsfest oder zu Weihnachten - Gut sechs Jahre nach der Mailänder Uraufführung (1773) entstand die zweite Fassung von 'Exsultate, jubilate', die in einer Salzburger Handschrift überliefert ist und für eine Aufführung am Dreifaltigkeitssonntag des Jahres 1779 gedacht war. Diese 1978 aufgefundene 'Salzburger Fassung' unterscheidet sich von der 'Mailänder Fassung' vor allem durch die Verwendung von Flöten statt Oboen und zweier Texte in der ersten Arie, von denen sich einer auf das Dreifaltigkeitsfest und der andere auf Weihnachten bezieht. Mozarts Autograph, das die 'Mailänder Fassung' überliefert, galt nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg als verschollen und ist seit etwas über einem Jahrzehnt in der Biblioteka Jagiell¾nska in Krakau wieder zugänglich. Die vorliegende Kritische Neuausgabe von Wolfgang Hochstein ist die erste, die sich sowohl auf das Autograph als auf die Salzburger Quelle stützen kann.
