Description:
Franz Schubert's masterpiece "Gesang der Geister über den Wassern" (Op. 167), set to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's celebrated verses, stands as one of the most compelling pinnacles of Romantic vocal literature. Composed in 1820, this work captures the mystical reflection on the human soul with an incomparable depth of tone color. The exceptional instrumentation for an 8-part male choir, supported by the warm, dark sonic foundation of two violas, two cellos, and double bass (alternatively performable with piano), unfolds a mesmerizing dramatic atmosphere. This finely printed full score from Edition Tonger provides conductors and ambitious ensembles with an ideal foundation for rehearsals and unforgettable concert performances. An indispensable masterwork for advanced male choruses!
