Harlequinade was commissioned by Washington Arts Centre with funds provided by Northern Arts. It was written in 1983 and first performed by Elaine Barry and Lontano in May 1984. There are four songs, versions of original Commedia dell’Arte texts: 1 Music in the Moon 2 Harlequin’s description of the burning of Troy 3 Harlequin on love and marriage 4 The Emperor of the Moon Small forces are used to give the impression of a slightly over-loaded pit band.
