*Instants*, for pan flute and string quartet, is a work by Dominique Gesseney-Rappo dedicated to Jeanne Gollut. In its four movements—Soliloque, Contrastes, Mémoire, and Dérision—the piece explores a wide range of moods, from introspection and expressive energy to reminiscence and playful moments. The pan flute enters into a dialogue with the string quartet through a compositional style that is both sensitive and rich in contrast, in which the timbres respond to one another, blend, and stand in opposition. Each movement unfolds its own world: the inner voice of *Soliloque*, the tensions of *Contrastes*, the more meditative dimension of *Mémoire*, and finally the livelier, ironic character of *Dérision*. Rich in color and nuance, *Instants* highlights the distinctive sound of the pan flute within a sophisticated and expressive chamber music setting.
