I wrote this piece as a tribute to a person who has the greatest motivation for music that I know, Mr. Norbert Ritler. The purpose of this piece of music is to celebrate his 60th birthday and to highlight his 45 years of musical activity. During this long and successful career, Norbert has alternated between cornet player, conductor and currently conductor and bass player. Norbert has responded to every musical challenge he has faced with motivation, selflessness and competence. It is therefore not surprising that his son Cedric has become an exceptional cornet player and has won numerous soloist prizes at cantonal and national level. The most beautiful tribute that could be paid to them was therefore inevitably to compose a duet for them, accompanied by the Alpina of Wiler, a band close to their hearts. This very difficult piece aims to put both the lyrical and technical qualities of the soloists to the test. After an introduction in which the cornet reaches the highest highs and the bass the lowest lows, and sometimes even the opposite, a lyrical section follows in which the soloists can demonstrate their musicality. The following Allegro is extremely technical and rhythmic. It contains many parts that will thrill the audience. However, as the soloists have always been big fans of high-level brass band music, I have deliberately included passages inspired by competition pieces in this piece. The music alternates between dark sections and more optimistic moments. I think it's a reflection of a musician's life. There are many happy and bright moments, but also difficult and dark times. It reflects the strength of a person who has been making music for more than 45 years and has thus managed to overcome all difficulties to keep the motivation and the sacred fire for a lifetime. This should be a role model for all young musicians in our society.
