Description:
Just Keep Moving is part of the concept album *Chesapeake* (Summit Records DCD 639), performed by the American Brass Quintet with percussion and piano. This work is one movement within an integrated recital program that includes *Breakaway* for two trumpets and electronics, *Powell Trio* for trombone, marimba, and piano, and *Three Sides* for trumpet, vibraphone, and piano. Comprising four movements with varying techniques and contrasting moods, *Just Keep Moving* culminates in an exhilarating final fanfare that builds toward a climax. The title is derived from a philosophy of life espoused by Betty, the composer’s mother, for overcoming adversity and loss: "Never stop, just keep moving"—a wisdom that permeates the work with resilience and forward momentum. The album concludes with *Chesapeake*, a piece for brass quintet that acoustically depicts three sailing trips on Chesapeake Bay. Together, these works create a compelling musical journey of exploration and perseverance.
