Description:
The Missa Sti Bernardi by Offida from 1796 marks the beginning of Joseph Haydn's late work. The work was given the nickname "Heiligmesse" (Holy Mass) because Haydn quotes the then well-known hymn "Heilig, heilig, heilig" in the Sanctus. The musical text of this critical edition offers the work with the full wind instrumentation, including the clarinets and horns missing from the autograph score and the first edition, whereby the optional horn parts are only included as an appendix to the score and in the performance material. However, one cannot do without them if one wants to fully visualize the Eisenstadt appearance of the mass.
