Psalm 127 - Händels Vesperpsalm Nisi Dominus (Psalm 127), der hier in einer kritischen Neuausgabe vorgelegt wird, entstand 1707 in Rom für das Fest der Madonna del Monte Carmel. Er steht ganz in der Tradition der konzertanten mehrchörigen Motette, die im Rom der späten Barockzeit besonders gepflegt wurde. Die Psalmvertonung besticht - trotz der liturgisch gebotenen Kürze der Einzelsätze - durch festliche Klangfülle, kontrastierende Besetzungswechsel sowie typisch Händel'sche Bildkraft und Prägnanz.
