Ophelia’s Mad Scene, op. 146, for soprano and clarinet, composed in 2018 after Shakespeare’s Hamlet, was commissioned by the soprano Noriko Yakushiji, to whom the work is dedicated. The piece explores the fragility and emotional turmoil of Ophelia’s character. It was first performed on November 8, 2018, at Nippori Sunny Hall in Tokyo, Japan, by Noriko Yakushiji (soprano) and Ryuta Iwase (clarinet).
