Description:
With hardly any other chamber music work did Dvorák occupy himself as long and intensively as with this trio. After his first successes with works inspired by Czech folk music, namely the popular Slavonic Dances (HN757 and HN918), he now wanted to present himself as a composer of the highest standards. Therefore, he thoroughly reworked the trio, written within eight weeks in the spring of 1883, again the following summer before submitting it to his publisher. The chamber music of Brahms was unmistakably the model for the new composition, without this hindering the development of an expressive, passionate tone all his own. As with the 'Dumky' Trio op. 90 (HN799), Andreas Groethuysen is responsible for the fingering of the piano part.
