Description:
The Suite for oboe, horn and strings was written between December, 1990, and January, 1991, for two close friends of the composer: oboe player Lucinda Fisher and hornist Richard Schwartz, who performed the world premiere March 17, 1991 in Philadelphia, USA, with the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia conducted by Max Rudolf (1902-1995). The six short movements (Prelude, Waltz, Song, Procession, Tarantella, Finale, for a cumulative duration of ten and a one-half minutes) are like a pastiche of style exercises presented with a dash of humor which the composer himself described as being 'traditional and romantic'. This Suite is but one more example of the delicate and seductive musical talent of Richard Lane.
