Popular epithets of classical works often do not stem from the composer – but in the case of Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, it is different: "Pastoral Symphony or Recollections of country life. More an expression of feeling than painting", thus Beethoven related the title of his new work to his publisher. With its evocative musical motives and catchy melodies, the "Pastoral" has numbered among Beethoven’s most popular works since its first performance in December 1808. In 2022, as a part of their project "Beethoven for Three", the three exceptional artists Emanuel Ax, Leonidas Kavakos and Yo-Yo Ma recorded the symphony in an arrangement for piano trio. This transcription by the renowned pianist Shai Wosner has since then enjoyed a veritable triumph with audiences.
