Description:
With "extraordinary expertise", according to his contemporaries, Johann Peter Salomon produced five-part arrangements of Haydn's 12 London Symphonies for flute, string quartet and piano ad lib. in London after he had secured the rights to the works from the composer. The distribution of the arrangements was enormous. Reprints in England and other European countries testify to their popularity and to Solomon's lucky hand, which enabled him to fill a gap in the chamber music repertoire. The basis for Christopher Hogwood's new edition of this arrangement of Symphony No. 94 "Mit dem PaukenschIag" was not, however, one of the numerous - sometimes erroneous - printed editions, but Salomon's original manuscript, which was discovered a few years ago. A symphony in a chamber music guise - an enrichment for today's chamber music!
