Description:
After Missa Latina and Magnificat, Te Deum is the third major composition by musician and composer Karl Albrecht "Bobbi" Fischer to be published by Carus. Fischer's musical roots lie in traditional classical music, which he combines with jazz elements and Latin American rhythms.
All three styles also characterize the Te Deum. In keeping with the text "Te Deum laudamus" (We praise you, God), it begins festively (Cuban) with timpani and trumpet; the choir also imitates fanfares. As the piece progresses, a cappella choirs are a recurring element, presenting Gregorian phrases set to music against a changing chordal background. Swing, rhythm & blues, frenetic choral jubilation and mystical, contemplative moments are also included. The instrumentalists are given ample opportunity for improvised solos.
The well-known chorale Großer Gott, wir loben dich is woven into the otherwise Latin work. Several verses can be sung here with the plenum, alternatively to the original German text also in the introduced English translation "Holy God, we praise thy name", which is also printed.
