Missa in B - Die hier vorgelegte Missa B-Dur von Joseph Haydn ist unter dem Beinamen äTheresienmesse' in die Musikgeschichte eingegangen. Der Grund für diese Benennung ist ungeklärt, könnte aber mit der Aufführung einer weiteren Messe im Mai 1800 in Wien zusammenhängen, vermutlich in Gegenwart von Kaiserin Marie Therese. Verglichen mit Haydns letzten beiden Messen und den beiden deutschen Oratorien ist die Theresienmesse für eine relativ bescheidene Orchesterbesetzung konzipiert (mit je zwei Klarinetten und Trompeten mit Pauken sowie Streicher und Orgel-Continuo). Damit ist sie auch in bescheideneren kirchenmusikalischen Verhältnissen gut aufführbar - und doch zugleich ein musikalisches Juwel der späten Wiener Klassik. - Soli SATB, Coro SATB, 2 Clt, 2 Ctr, Timp, 2 Vl, Va, Bc, [Fg]
