Description:
Robert Fuchs (1847–1927), playfully nicknamed the "Serenade fox" (fox is Fuchs in German) by his contemporaries such as Johannes Brahms, is largely unknown today. He owes his posthumous fame above all to the prominence of his pupils, including Gustav Mahler, Franz Schreker, Richard Strauss and Hugo Wolf. Besides the once-celebrated serenades, Fuchs composed ambitious chamber music, including a number of piano trios. In Trio op. 115, the proximity to Brahms is clearly audible. The distinctive instrumentation with viola rather than violoncello and the unusual key of F-sharp minor lend the work a special colour. Based on the autograph, the edition offers a carefully reviewed musical text and opens up an exciting repertoire beyond the canon.
