Description:
Wach auf, du Schläfer is musically on the borderline between new spiritual song (with influences from jazz, swing, gospel and pop) and "serious music", especially in the song version for classical voice and piano. It is characterized by a strong textual and musical contrast between the verse and the verses. The verse set to music is based on the biblical text from Paul's letter to the Ephesians (chapter 5, verse 14; Good News translation).
