Anmerkung des Komponisten:What's That Spell? wurde von Dogs of Desire und seinem Leiter David Alan Miller in Auftrag gegeben, unter der Mitwirkung der Sopranistinnen Lisa Bielawa und Alex Sweeton am 14. April 1996 in der Music Hall of Troy Savings Banks in Troy (New York) uraufgeführt und erstmals auf CD eingespielt. In dieser Pop-Kantate unterstützt ein großes Rock 'n' Roll-Kammerensemble zwei Sopranistinnen. Diese posieren in verschiedenen Rollen, in denen sie von den Mühen von Cheerleadern, Ballerinas, Plastikpuppen und Majoretten singen.- Michael Daugherty -
