Concept & Idea: The Colorful Songbook by Gottfried Hummel

Making the world a little more colorful—that could be the slogan for the "All the Colors of Music" series from Edition Hummel Ton. This series is suitable for children ages 4 and up. Whether on the piano, glockenspiel, or xylophone, the mix of songs is just as colorful—ranging from the massive YouTube hit "Baby Shark" to international tunes like "A Ramsamsam" and traditional favorites in the genre.

What’s the concept?
The principle is very simple! The songs aren’t presented using complicated musical notation—but rather through symbols and pictures. Different colors, each assigned to a specific note,
define the sheet music. Making music is (in theory) actually quite simple—hit the right note and assign the correct duration. At the beginning, distinguishing between
long and short notes is enough for note duration... colored note heads are short, white note heads are long—bars above the notes indicate even faster notes.

Who is this suitable for?
Of course, for elementary piano and mallet instrument lessons. Who else? Do you actually teach wind or string instruments? In that case, variety is sure to be an enrichment. Why not simply use these pieces as a supplement? These pieces liven up the lesson... Many classrooms have a piano, and a glockenspiel is easy to transport. Making music should be, above all, one thing—fun! And this method is ideal for that.
