Marianna Martines, also known as Nannette Martinez (born May 4, 1744, in Vienna; died December 13, 1812, there), was a prominent Austrian composer, harpsichordist, and soprano. She is considered one of the most remarkable female musicians of the 18th century, whose life was closely tied to the cultural and social milieu of Vienna. Marianna was born to Theresia and Nicolò Martines. Her father was from Naples and served as master of ceremonies at the Papal Nunciature in Vienna. The family had a total of twelve children, but only five—one daughter and four sons—survived childhood. In 1774, the four brothers were ennobled by Empress Maria Theresa as hereditary knights.
