Description:
THREE BOTTICELLI PICTURES (TRITTICO BOTTICELLIANO or BOTTICELLI TRIPTYCH) is a set of pieces by Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936) meant to evoke three paintings by the painter Sandro Botticelli: La Primavera (Spring), L'Adorazione dei Magi (The Adoration of the Magi), and La nascita di Venere (The Birth of Venus). Spring is light and lively with birdsong and danceable rhythms, The Adoration of the Magi borrows from the Christmas songs "Veni, Veni Emanuel" and "Tu scende dalle stelle", and The Birth of Venus evokes the gentle waves in the painting. Respighi dedicated the piece to prominent music patron Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge. Instrumentation: 1.1.1.1: 1.1.0.0: Perc(2): Clst.Pno.Hp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set). Reprint edition.
