Description:
Between 1917 and 1931, Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936) transcribed three orchestral suites from original pieces written for lute between the 16th and 18th centuries. Antiche Danze ed Arie (Ancient Airs and Dances), Suite 2, written in 1923, includes the following works: 1. Laura Soave (Fabritio Caros, ca. 1531); 2. Danza Rustica (Jean-Baptiste Besard, ca. 1617); 3. Campanæ Parisienses/Aria (anonymous composer/Marin Mersenne, ca. 1600); 4. Bergamasca (Bernardo Gianoncelli, ca. 1650).
