Johann Wilhelm Hertel

Basson Concerto in E flat

Hertel's instrumental concertos are less widely known than other areas of his musical output, but several bassoon concertos survive, including the present Concerto in E-flat, one of a group of three.

This new edition supersedes the 1997 Phylloscopus edition, which was prepared from the original manuscript by C. M. M. and F. H. Nex. The continuo keyboard part and the piano reduction were realised from the figured bass by Lance Whitehead.

The concerto is scored for solo bassoon with either piano accompaniment, or chamber ensemble/orchestra.

Available as follows:

C1035 — Piano reduction with bassoon part

C1036 — Full score and set of accompanying parts.

2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 horns in F, violin I, violin II, viola and basso.

The strings parts can either be played by a string orchestra or a string quartet.

N.B. The solo bassoon part is only available with the piano part (C1035).

Alternative horn parts in Eb and the optional continuo keyboard part are available to download free of charge from: www.CliftonEdition.com/C1036

Where multiple string players are required for orchestral performance, additional printable PDF string parts are included within the licence for C1036. These may be requested via the Clifton Edition contact form: www.cliftonedition.com/contact/

Oboes and horns appear only in movements I and III.

Flutes appear only in movement II.
