Description:
Best known as the composer of the anthem JERUSALEM, Charles Hubert Hastings Parry (1848-1918), wrote a number of songs for choir and orchestra. One of these, BLEST PAIR OF SIRENS (AT A SOLEMN MUSIC), came about as the result of a commission by contemporary composer Charles Stanford for a concert celebrating the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Performed on May 17th, 1887 at St. James's Hall in London, Stanford conducting, it quickly achieved acclaim and has been performed at such events as the Last Night of the Proms and the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.
