Even though the works of the German-Italian composer Johann Simon Mayr have experienced a certain renaissance in recent years, the majority of his important church music work has hardly been explored to this day. After the distinctive "Salve Regina" (BU 3049), another treasure from his sacred vocal work is presented here in the first edition: the Christmas motet "Christus natus est", a joyful hymn of praise to the Creator, who sent his Son and who holds the earth and humanity safe in his hands. The work in the style of the late classical period is characterized by a cheerful, relaxed Italian mood. Soloists and choir create a charming dialogue, whereby the relatively short choral part contains no difficulties. The six-minute work represents a beautiful addition to the not very large Christmas repertoire of the classical period. With Latin and German texts.
