Concerto for Piano No. 1 in G minor, Op. 25 / MWV O 7 was composed in 1830-1831 by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) during a period of extensive travel across Europe that deeply influenced his musical style. Written in Italy and completed in Munich, the concerto reflects both Classical clarity and early Romantic energy. Mendelssohn himself was the soloist at the premiere on October 17, 1831, in Munich, where the work was enthusiastically received and quickly established his reputation as both composer and virtuoso pianist. The concerto marks an important step in the evolution of the Romantic piano concerto, favoring continuous musical flow and integrated movements rather than the traditional separation of sections. Today the Concerto for Piano No. 1 in G minor remains one of Mendelssohn's most frequently performed orchestral works, firmly established in the standard repertoire. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set): [Solo Piano]. The Horn and Trumpet parts include transposed parts. Reprint of the edition by Julius Rietz, part of the Julius Mendelssohn-Bartholdys Werke.
