Description:
Tanz des Dionysos was commissioned by the Kassel Youth Symphony Orchestra. When conceiving the work, particular attention was paid to the technical and expressive possibilities of young performers.
The composer chose the figure of Dionysus as a central source of inspiration within the framework of the given theme of fairy tales and mythology. In ancient mythology, Dionysus stands for creative energy, vital youthfulness and unbridled joie de vivre - aspects that play a central role in the musical design of the work.
The composition evokes a sonic scenery reminiscent of a mythical forest, permeated by movement, light and changing atmospheres. In this soundscape, we encounter Dionysus, who - passionate and impulsive - unfolds an ecstatic dance together with the satyrs. In contrast, there are sonically differentiated passages that hint at the appearance of the nymphs, whose fleeting and enraptured form opens up a contrasting, ethereal dimension.
