Description:
Hans Werner Henze's monumental oratorio "Das Floß der Medusa" (The Raft of the Medusa) stands as one of the most poignant and dramatic masterworks of the 20th century. With immense emotional power, it sets the harrowing historical tragedy of the French frigate Méduse to music as a stirring requiem for humanity. The multi-layered scoring—featuring soprano, baritone, narrator, multi-part mixed choir alongside nine boys' voices, and full orchestra—unfolds a breathtaking sonic tapestry oscillating between existential despair, political indictment, and tender hope. This high-quality study score from Schott Music provides conductors, musicologists, and passionate score readers with precise, comprehensive insights into a modern orchestral tour de force. An indispensable edition for in-depth analysis and study.
