Description:
Originally, the present work - with Latin text and the title 'Non nobis, Domine' - was a gift composed by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy for his sister Fanny's 25th birthday in November 1830. Five years later he wanted to have it printed, and his publisher Simrock urged him to make a German translation. It is in this form that the setting of the 115th Psalm, along with four other psalm compositions by Mendelssohn, has become known in the field of tension between church and concert hall. The Urtext edition goes back to the main sources - autograph and first printing.
