Description:
Mozart's Flute Concerto K. 314 (285d) was probably written on the basis of the Oboe Concerto K. 314 (271k). The decisive impetus for the arrangement was probably given to Mozart in 1778 by a commission from the Dutch flutist Ferdinand Dejean. A new edition, unchanged and inevitably, enters unsecured terrain, for the source tradition is thin. For both versions there are only copies of parts from the 1790s, which differ considerably from one another, and there is no evidence anywhere that Mozart actually arranged the flute version himself. Henrik Wiese has studied Mozart's flute works intensively as a performer and musicologist and, following the new edition of the concerto K. 313, now also presents the second solo concerto in the original text, again supplemented by his own cadenzas.
