Description:
Although numbered 1, Gigues was the last of the three Images pour orchestre to be composed. Conceived between 1909 and 1912, it completes the symphonic triptych formed by Ibéria and Rondes de printemps. Of exceptional orchestral refinement, this work gives a prominent role to the hautbois d'amour (oboe d'amore), an instrument rarely used at the time. This volume of the ŒUVRES COMPLÈTES DE CLAUDE DEBUSSY, Series V, vol. 6a, is edited by Jean-Louis Leleu. This new edition is the first to take into account two copies of the score bearing autograph corrections by Debussy, while drawing on a thorough analytical re-reading of the composer's manuscript.
