Description:
Glenn Miller was one of the most popular band leaders of his time in the 1930s and 40s. Here is a medley of four songs that were amongst his most famous, in an arrangement for concert orchestra that evokes the true Glenn Miller sound. The songs are 'In the mood', Moonlight Serenade', 'Pennsylvania 6-5000' and the 'St.Louis Blues'.
These songs are usually notated in 4/4 time but played in a 'swing' fashion with dotted rhythms usually played lazily, more like a triplet. In an effort to synchronize the 'swinging' of a whole concert orchestra (who may not be as used to playing swing as Glenn Miller and his orchestra) this arrangement has been written in 12/8 time to give more of a lazy feel, or, as the opening tempo instruction indicates, 'in the groove'.
