James Horner

Glory

With Glory, James Horner created one of his most impressive film scores. For Edward Zwick’s multi-award-winning historical drama about the 54th Massachusetts Infantry—the first African American regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War—Horner composed a score of extraordinary emotional depth and dramatic power. The music combines expansive orchestral sounds with moving choral passages, creating a distinctive sonic landscape that balances hope, determination, and tragedy. Pieces such as "A Call to Arms," "The Whipping," and "Charging Fort Wagner" rank among the most memorable moments in Horner’s film music career and played a pivotal role in the film’s impact. This high-quality study score makes the complete original score available for the first time in a carefully edited edition. It offers a fascinating insight into Horner’s compositional style and is intended for conductors, students of composition and film music, musicologists, and all lovers of orchestral film music. An indispensable volume for anyone who wishes to discover the art of cinematic storytelling through music and study James Horner’s masterpiece in detail.
