Description:
It is one of Johann Sebastian Bach's best-known and most popular vocal works, the cantata 'Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis' BWV 21. Intended for performance on the 3rd Sunday after Trinity and also 'in ogni tempo' ('for every occasion'), this work occupies a special position within Bach's cantata oeuvre. Not only is its length of around 40 minutes exceptional, but above all the formal and tonal richness of this music. Matthias Grünert, cantor of the Dresden Frauenkirche, has completely rewritten the piano reduction of this central work in Breitkopf's Bach cantata series. His competent work is complemented by the revised new edition of the continuo part.
