Description:
After España, the short work Joyeuse Marche is French composer Emmanuel Chabrier's (1841-1894) second most popular composition. The joyous and at times comical piece was originally written for piano, which Chabrier orchestrated in 1888, and that version premiered that same year on November 4 in Angers with the composer conducting. The title went through several iterations, first being called Marche française, then Marche Joyeuse, before Chabrier settled on Joyeuse Marche. The latter two titles are used fairly interchangeably excepting in France, which uses the final version as the standard title. Instrumentation: 2+Picc.2.2.4: 4.2+Crnt.3.1: Timp.Perc(4): Hp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).
